Firtree Newsletter August supplement Issue 475
Here’s hoping some of the good weather lasts while we are on holiday although I must admit I was beginning to find it a bit exhausting. Most of Firtree’s activities now take a break for August but the Songsters are meeting until the end of the month when they take a three week break, and of course the bowls group keep rolling away all month on Thursday mornings at Prospect Park.
But we are back In September with bridge on Monday the 3rd and the Tuesday programme starting on the 4th.
4th Sep. Peter Brearly starts with a talk on the history of the Foundling Hospital
11th Sep. Mark presents one of his compilations from the shows
18th Sep. Gwen Barton returns with a one of her adventures abroad
25th Sep. David Hunt with a walk from the Source of the Thames to the Barrier.
On Monday 1st October there is to be an older peoples Day from 10.00 to 3.00 at the Broad Street Mall. We have said we will provide a stand for information about Firtree. The day is to celebrate the cultural diversity of the Reading Population and helping people to know where they can get the help or support that they need. Put this in your diary now. Help for looking after our stall will be needed.
While this hot weather persists the warnings especially for older people continue. Keep out of the direct sunlight as much as possible. Drink plenty of water. If you are out wear a hat and light weight clothing. Keep cool folks.
Sadly, the Donkey Sanctuary is not up to a coach full of visitors though cars are OK. We may have to go to Weymouth for the traditional Donkey rides.
