Newsletter                              February 2022                                  Issue 515

Welcome to the early buds of spring. The hope of young lovers and the thoughts of Lent. And welcome too for all members old and new as we meet face to face for a range of activities from a social gathering for games or entertainment, to move gently to music, for bowls (indoor at present) and monthly for the garden circle.

Firtree was founded in 1972, so this year marks our 50th anniversary. Can you remember what you were doing in 1972? Come to the meeting on the 15th February as we reminisce and think how we might celebrate our golden jubilee.

1st February         Ann Smith will give us a brief history of Woodley.

8th February         time to socialise

15th February       remembering 1972 (led by Colin)

22nd February      time to socialise.

1st March              Mark will take us down memory lane with more film fun.

We have not collected any membership fees for the last two years, and during this time, we have paid for our activities out of our reserves. The time has come when we need to start collecting membership fees. The annual membership fee at the same level (£35.00) as we had before the pandemic. Liz aims to collect most of the fees during February and March, but Monica will not pay cheques into the bank until after 1st April. This will make our books for 2021 easier to manage prior to the Annual General Meeting, which will be in May.

Your committee will also come up for election and we do need some fresh blood, especially a secretary. We have only managed by other members of the committee taking on additional work. Volunteers are always welcome, even if they do not become full members of the committee. If you are interested, have a word with Mark or Monica.

A word of wit and wisdom – The past is history; the future is a mystery: this moment is a gift; that is why it is called the present. I like presents – enjoy them.
