This is a short issue for this month as it will soon be accompanied by the papers for our Annual General Meeting on May 17th. It also enables me to apologise for the fact that we had to postpone our Easter Service due to the illness of Rev. David Jenkins. I am glad to say he is now fit and well and the service will be held on Tuesday the 26th April when we will be returning after the Easter break.

The next outing for the Garden Circle is to The Englefield Garden Centre on Monday 9th May. Those taking part will meet at the YMCA at 1.30pm. Please let Jenny Supper (0118 9425629) know by the 2nd May at the latest if you are planning to be there.

Also booking now is the coach trip Portsmouth which leaves on Monday 18th July, leaving at 9.45. The cost is £18 and for this you also need to book, this time with Gloria (0118 9412549). Please book as soon as possible as numbers are limited.

There will be a quiz on Tuesday 3rd May and then the 10th will be a games day. As I have already mentioned, the AGM is on 17th May when hopefully we will get back to our proper order with the accounts and other reports. It is important for us to have a good turnout, as it is the one point of time when we can really see what we are doing and talk about the ideas we would like to see incorporated.

On Tuesday 24th May, Marjy Carden will be entertaining us with some of her poems. Then, on 31st May, Bert Randall will be playing his accordion and helping us to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

If you would like to play bowls, please speak to Dick Croker (0118 9624221). We play at Prospect Park Bowling Club, Thursdays from 10.00 to noon, weather permitting. New faces will be very welcome! (PS you must have flat-soled shoes…)

The singers among us have been fortunate to find a new choir, The Silvertones, which is welcoming and has very good leadership. They meet at St Matthew’s Church on Mondays from 11.45 to 13.45. If you would like to know more have a word with Val Beckingham (0118 9432555).
