AUGUST 2017

After all the confusion of July with first the car park and then the asbestos in the hall we have returned to normal just in time to close down for August. I say closed down but we are still active on the bowling green every Thursday morning and the songsters are continuing to meet as they are giving their first performance in September. They are going from strength to strength and thoroughly enjoying the group. They are paying £3.00 now to help defray the cost but it only needs a few more members to reduce that again. They have been invited to sing at the older people’s day at Rivermead on Monday 9th October. This meeting is free and open to all ‘older’ people. Hopefully they will also be in good voice for our own open day on the 24th October (Tuesday). Our last Tuesday meeting is on the 1st August when Lorraine Cook from the RSPCA will be our speaker.

For those who are going on the Longleat outing, we meet on Monday the 14th August by 9.30am at the YMCA. The coach will be leaving Longleat at 4.00 so we ought to return sometime around 6.00pm.  With a very full coach, timekeeping is important.

Everything else starts up from the 4th September (Monday). Talks in September will be:-

5th September        David Morton brings a programme on the Great Exhibition of 1851.

12th September      John Brierley takes us round the villages of the Cotswolds.

19th September      Mary Jones introduces us to life with Alpacas.

26th September      Serenade return to entertain us.

Don’t forget the older people’s day at Rivermead on the 9th October and of course our own open day on the 24th October. We hope that each of our activities will be able to display what they are doing.

I missed the garden circle news last month !!! They did have a lovely day at Jane and Michael’s garden which they described as absolutely stunning. Yes there was tea and cake afterwards. Their next meeting in September is likely to be a visit to Beale Park.

Welcome to our new members. If anyone wants to join now it will cost only £20.00 up to the beginning of April. After Christmas membership returns to £30 but the new membership will then cover up to April 2019.
